Hublot at Watches and Wonders 2021: Truly Spectacular Releases

By Jorg Weppelink

We can always rely on Hublot to come up with something special. The brand from Nyon, Switzerland is famous for using new and crazy materials in combination with some wild designs. They did not disappoint at Watches and Wonders 2021.

Hublot has released the first solid sapphire watch.

Hublot Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire

The first and most eye-catching release is, without a doubt, Hublot’s first solid sapphire watch. By “solid sapphire,” I mean almost everything: case, bezel, and bracelet. But it doesn’t stop there. Parts of the movement are also produced from sapphire. It’s pure madness! It took Hublot five years of research and prototyping to come up with this exceptional piece.

The base is a regular 43-mm Big Bang with Hublot’s HUB6035 automatic tourbillon movement. As mentioned above, the brand uses a trio of sapphire bridges so that the caliber appears to float inside the translucent case. The sapphire bracelet is comprised of 156 components, 22 of which are sapphire. The rest is predominantly titanium, including the clasp’s folding mechanism. Hublot designed every non-sapphire part to support the unique look of the sapphire. The company will limit this extraordinary timepiece to a production run of 30, each of which will cost $422,000. A bonkers price for a bonkers timepiece!

Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu II

Hublot has been working with Swiss tattoo artist Maxime Plescia-Büchi of Sang Bleu for several years now. The Big Bang Sang Bleu II has a solid black ceramic design and debuted last year. This time around, Hublot has expanded the line-up with white, blue, and gray versions. As you can see, the Sang Bleu II stands out in a unique 45-mm case with some pretty spectacular lines. Plescia-Büchi has carried these lines over to the spectacular dial as well. The watches get their power from the automatic Hublot HUB1240.MXM movement with a flyback chronograph. Hublot will produce 200 copies of each model and sell them for $27,300 each.

Hublot Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic

The last introduction we would like to focus on is the bright yellow ceramic version of the Big Bang Unico. At first glance, it looks like the perfect watch to wear while driving a yellow Ferrari, but it’s even more special than that. As you may know, yellow is a challenging color to produce in ceramic, and Hublot claims this is the first-ever bright yellow ceramic watch. The Big Bang’s 42-mm ceramic case pairs wonderfully with the bright yellow skeletonized dial, through which you can view the brand’s in-house Unico 2 movement. The watch comes with a bright yellow rubber strap for added impact. Matte black accents and pushers add a nice sense of contrast. This limited-edition Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic will have a run of 250 pieces and can be yours for $26,200.
